Impact on the family
When someone suffers a brain injury, it doesn’t just happen to them, it happens to the whole family. If you are reading this, you are probably going through many experiences that you didn’t expect or get a chance to plan for. At Headway we work with family members of people with a brain injury to provide up to date information. We hope their experiences will help support you and your family to find the best way to live after a brain injury.
Families like yours can face challenges that other people don’t see. We give lots of advice on coping with ‘hidden’ difficulties (for example, personality changes) because families told us these were the hardest changes to adjust to. Taking care of yourself is as important as looking after the injured person. We are here to support you. We host carer events and provide counselling services. Please know that you are not alone. If you need support or have any questions you can call our helpline 1800 400 478.
